Coronavirus Spreads to US
The coronavirus that began in Wuhan in the Hubei province of China has officially spread to the US according to the World Health Organization. According to the Director of Forensic Operations for the Global Biorisk Advisory Council, this virus started in a “wet market” in Wuhan. But he also says this coronavirus is an enveloped virus and therefore easier to “inactivate”; crack the shell and the virus is rendered harmless.
With the first US case of human to human transfer and the expectation that it will continue to spread through respiratory droplets (sneezing or coughing), here is some advice from the World Health Organization.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website has a special page dedicated to information on this virus which has been named 2019-nCoV which contains information about “What You Need to Know about 2019-nCoV”, current updates, and a global map of current case reports.
CNN’s senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen says "Coronavirus symptoms look like flu symptoms -- fever, cough, trouble breathing. If you show these symptoms and recently went to China, or have been in contact with someone who visited, experts advise going to the doctor."
